Mathias Ashitey, Desmond Pappoe and George Dowuona will represent Ghana at African Youth Boxing championship from May 16 to May 25 in Conakry, Guinea.

Coach Joseph Martey, a star one rated trainer of Seconds Out Gym is leading the team as CDM and trainer.

According to Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Alhaji Dauda Fuseni who handles the Black Rockets, the three boxers had an experience of participating in an international tournament in Montenegro and hopes they will perform well.

Ghana Amateur Boxing is highly respected on the continent and the youth team is expected to do well in the upcoming Africa Youth Boxing Championship, scheduled to take place in Conakry, Guinea.

Treasurer of the GBF, Mr. Mustapha Nettey who was at the airport to see the boxers off also wished them Good luck and success.

“These guys are our rising stars and it is good we have been monitoring and encouraging them to train always. This is another opportunity and we know they will excel” he expressed.

The prestigious event will bring together the continent’s most promising young boxing talents for an unforgettable display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Alongside the competition, the event will also offer valuable educational opportunities for the African boxing community.

Three official IBA certification courses will be conducted during the championship:1. Referee & Judge (R&J) Course, 2. Coaching Course and 3. International Technical Official (ITO) Course.

These courses aim to enhance the knowledge, skills, and standards of African boxing professionals, contributing to the continued growth of the sport across the continent.
