Card Analysis

Matchroom Boxing will stage its first event in Accra, Ghana on December 20. The headline fight is a light heavyweight battle between British fighters Craig Richards and Dan Azeez.

The fight card is coming together well, and it already features seven confirmed fights.

Richards vs Azeez

In the main event, Richards and Azeez will seek a victory to reignite their pursuit of a world title.

Craig Richards (19-4-1, 12 KOs) has had a decent career, mostly succeeding against the opponents he was favoured to beat.

Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in his fight against Willy Hutchinson for the WBC Silver strap, and he also lost to current champion Dimitry Bivol and Joshua Buatsi. Likewise, Dan Azeez (22-2-1, 14 KOs) has also suffered a loss to Joshua Buatsi.

Victory for either boxer could improve their future chances of contending for a world title, especially since both fighters are well past 30 years.

Allotey vs Raquinel

Theophilus Allotey (12-0) is a top boxer in Ghana with a promising career.

The 23-year-old boxer has been very active and efficient, winning all his five fights between January and August of 2025.

Impressive as he is, his next opponent in Raquinel is no doubt the toughest yet.

From the Philippines, Jayr Raquinel (18-2-1) is one of the top contenders in the WBO super flyweight rankings. His 77% knockout rate and swift counter-punching skills are a problem for anybody.

If Allotey succeeds against Raquinel, he will become Ghana’s newest contender, carrying the nation’s hopes and dreams to win a world title.

The fight will crown the WBO Global super flyweight champion.

Diallo vs Segbedzi

Belgian super welterweight Ibrahim Diallo (12-0-2, 2 KOs) has not lost a fight since turning pro in 2020. His opponent, Sampson Segbedzi (10-0, 7 KOs) also remains undefeated in 10 professional fights.

In addition to his boxing career, Diallo has also pursued acting, even securing a role in the film Numero 10. However, all this does not affect his focus in the ring.

Diallo’s boxing style emphasises outboxing opponents, which could explain why he has just few knockouts. Segbedzi, on the other hand, hunts for the knockout.

His 70% knockout rate shows his ability to find his opponent’s chin on multiple occasions.

Ultimately, if Diallo can get Segbedzi to play on his terms, a victory is possible, but Segbedzi needs only one successful shot to steal the win.

With the IBF International Super Welterweight title on the line, a win here could open up opportunities for bigger fights.

Dorgbetor vs Laryea

In an all-Ghanaian affair, up-and-coming featherweights will look to make a name for themselves across the continent while competing for the IBF African featherweight title.

Holy ‘The Jaw Breaker’ Dorgbetor (14-1-1, 8KOs), who has held the national featherweight title since 2021, is considered among the best pound for pound Ghanaian boxers. His only loss was at the Riyadh Season boxing Grand Prix, where he lost to Muhamet Qamili by unanimous decision.

John Laryea (15-0-1, 11 KOs) is a challenging opponent for Holy, having been a national featherweight titleholder himself before winning the WBO African featherweight title.

The fight will be the ultimate featherweight battle for both national and continental glory.

Gyimah vs Tetteh

Another all-Ghanaian matchup will feature the sensational light heavyweights Seth Gyimah, also called FreezyMacbones, and Jonathan ‘Worldwide’ Tetteh.

This fight has been building up on the local scene for months, with a lot of tension between both fighters.

Gyimah (11-0, 10 KOs) plans to use his power to shut down his opponent, and his nine-fight knockout streak already speaks for itself ahead of the fight.

Jonathan Tetteh (10-0, 10 KOs) is not to be underestimated. Having been a team member of the Ghana Olympics team, he will bring a grassroots pedigree to the fight.

Tetteh has an impressive record, he has a 100% knockout ratio, which narrowly surpasses Gyimah’s’ record. This contest has the potential to end with a knockout, eliminating the need for the ringside judges.

Ama vs Nwaturuocha

In a female super welterweight contest, Sedem Ama (4-0), a UK-based Ghanaian boxer, will face Chiamaka Nwaturuocha(3-0) of Nigeria.

Sedem Ama recently stated her desire to fight in her home nation, a dream now becoming a reality, and a win would make it even more special.

Chiamaka goal will be to ruin Ama’s Christmas plans by securing an underdog victory.
