The Ghanaian super welterweight division is currently one of the most exciting divisions to watch.
Several talented young boxers in the division are all showing great potential and seem to be reaching their peak around the same time.
Henry Malm
Henry ‘Assassin Junior’ Malm is a familiar name within Ghanaian boxing circles. This 26-year-old possesses both the skill and personality befitting a future champion.
With 10 knockouts in 11 professional bouts, he’s known for his aggressive, fan-pleasing fighting style.
Malm, who was part of the Ghanaian national boxing team, represented the country at the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers in Bangkok.
Sampson Segbedzi
Despite his nickname, Sampson Segbedzi’s fighting style is anything but that of a ‘mama’s boy’. Since making his debut in 2019, Sampson has won 10 fights, suffering only one defeat. The Ashiaman native has previously held the UBO African and National welterweight titles.
The only blemish on his record to date is a unanimous decision loss to Belgian boxer Ibrahima Diallo for the IBF International Super Welter.
Musah Lawson
Lawson began his amateur career in 2012 and has competed in various countries. He began his professional career in 2019, achieving an 11-fight winning streak on the local scene before losing to Michael McKinson in 2021 for the WBC International Silver Welterweight title.
Musah Laswon has since won the National Super welterweight title and is now aiming for continental and potentially world championship fights.
Derrick QUAYE
At the age of 24, Derrick QUAYE Mensah has already accumulated significant ring experience and is considered a prospect for Ghana in the weight class.
Even though Derrick Kwe he is generally shorter than most of the fighters he faces, he has still been able to emerge victorious, holding a professional record of 9 wins and 1 draw out of 10 fights.
Fans have gravitated towards him because of his approach to fighting, leveraging his fight IQ and a sharp overhand right effectively to win fights.
Isaac Commey
Isaac Commey has competed against the best fighters in the super welterweight division.
He has lost three times, with two of those losses being to Sampson Segbedzi and Henry Malm Yet, Commey’s losses haven’t stopped him from being a top contender and a possible gatekeeper for the division.
Commey has also participated in MMA and Muay Thai, but he appears to be concentrating on boxing
