This past Saturday, Holy ‘The Jaw Breaker’ Dorgbetor defeated former multiple-weight national champion Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah at the Odwira Boxing Arena.
At the end of 8 rounds, the judges’ scorecards read 79-73, 78-74, 79-73 in favour of Dorgbetor.
This was the first time in five years Dorgbetor, a former IBF Africa featherweight champion, has fought in a weight class other than featherweight, proving he is capable of contesting in heavier divisions.
Michael Ansah answered the call to fight on short notice after Lukman Akinolugbade, the original opponent, had to pull out.
Despite his tenacity, Dorgbetor had the better of the exchanges for the majority of the fight.
Dorgbetor made his return to the ring after a loss to John Laryea last year. In his post-fight interview, the 28-year-old stated that he continued training after the fight and has kept at it even without a fight scheduled.
Dorgbetor lost to Laryea via a 7th round doctor’s stoppage at the Legon Sports Stadium.
Also at the Odwira Boxing Arena was Holy’s stablemate and former national super lightweight champion Samuel ‘No Chance’ Quaye, who defeated Mettle Ayitey via fourth-round knockout to improve his record to 12-2 with 9 knockouts.
This win was Quaye’s second of the year. He finished Mohammed Tagoe in just two rounds in their fight in July.
Dorgbetor and Quaye were two of three Ghanaian boxers to compete in the 2025 WBC Grand Prix.
On the same night, undefeated Abu ‘Ambitious Tilapia’ Kamoko defeated Ahmed Akrong via a fourth round TKO in a cruiserweight contest to improve his record to 9-0.
Another undefeated prospect, Joseph Commodore, won in only his second professional fight by second-round TKO against Sani Kugblie.
Also, former national super featherweight champion Alfred ‘Showtime’ Lamptey stopped Felix Williams in the second round to improve his record to 17-1.
